Mission
Statement
Kelleher
Real Estate not only acknowledges our responsibility to our customers
and clients but also to our island community and our way of life
here. It is this commitment that served as the impetus for creating
our Dreamcatcher's Childrens Foundation. Our foundation is funded
solely through office revenues. The intent of the foundation is
to assist children on the island who are dealing with unique challenges
in their young lives to include ones of a financial, emotional and/or
physical nature.
Camp
Scholarships
Though the
island serves as a breathtaking backdrop to our lives here, there
are some harsh realities some children deal with such as moving
twice a year, every year and leaving behind their friends and sometimes
belongings due to our housing crisis. Add to this mix, alcohol,
drugs or domestic abuse and the results are "at risk"
children who need the full support of our island community. These
are the children our foundation hopes to help by offering scholarships
to camps offered on (and sometimes) off-island. This gives the children
the opportunity to try something they've always had an interest
in or to gain additional skills in something they are already good
at. Our scholarships are "child based" and center around
the unique needs and wants of the child. Our goal is to make the
child feel empowered and comforted to know that someone cares about
them and wants to honor them by providing a brief respite from their
daily routine to make some new memories and friendships. We want
to give them an opportunity to experience the island in the way
generally reserved for only our privileged residents and visitors.
Some of the activities the children have selected include gymnastics,
art, sailing, theatre, horseback riding, sports and even week-long
camps off-island.
College
Scholarships
For our young
adults, our foundation awards a college scholarship each year to
the graduating senior who has demonstrated an on-going commitment
to community service. It is our hope that by rewarding volunteerism
at a young age we will be encouraging our young people to make this
work an on-going part of their life helping to build strong communities.
It has been encouraging to see how many of our teenagers already
incorporate this type of work into their busy lives.
